In a time of accelerating change – fueled by ongoing geopolitical and economic crises, shifting discourses and audience expectations, strained cultural funding systems and the implementation of artificial intelligence to name but a few parameters – arts institutions and markets are looking to adapt to new realities. But how? Drawing on András Szántó’s book, The Future of the Art World: 38 Dialogues, this panel discussion will launch Gallery Weekend and explore an art world in flux, posing new challenges for its institutions as they chart a path to the future. Panelists: Marion Ackermann, President of the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz; Grace Yao, Founder and CEO of ARTLAS; and Thomas Girst, Global Head of BMW Group Cultural Engagement, in conversation with András Szántó.

András Szántó LLC has been working for the past four years with E.A. Michelson Philanthropy on advancing opportunities for older Americans to participate in arts activities in art museums. The Creative Aging Series, supported by E.A. Michelson Philanthropy at the AAM 2026 Annual Meeting, examines how cultural institutions are responding to this shift, with a focus on program models that foster participation, wellbeing, and social connection among older adults. Sessions explore how museums are designing programs for older adults, collaborating with healthcare partners, using music and intergenerational dialogue to build community, and demonstrating the measurable health benefits of creative participation.

Event Museum Initiative Talks Artificial Museum? Exploring the Ethical and Creative Future of Museums with AI

In collaboration with ICOM Mexico and Museo Tamayo, the event brought together professionals from museums, cultural institutions, technology and academia. Over two days of lectures, dialogues and case studies, participants examined how Artificial Intelligence is reshaping museum management, preservation, mediation, education and communication. The opening day featured presentations by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, Javier Pantoja, Horacio Lecona and András Szántó, who explored connections between art, innovation and contemporary thought. Sessions analyzed the creative possibilities of AI and the ethical implications of its integration into cultural institutions.

Event Museum Initiative Talks Second Museums of Tomorrow Roundtable Participants Announced

The San Francisco Museum of Fine Arts has announced the 2025 participants of the Museums of Tomorrow Roundtable (MTR). Fourteen international museum directors will join five art museum directors from the Bay Area to participate in a weeklong series of closed-door meetings and discussions focusing on museum leadership and in particular how museum can engage with emerging technological innovations. ASLLC co-developed the program with FAMSF, and Andras Szanto will moderate the MTR as its consulting director. A public session is planned on Tuesday, May 13, on the theme of “Future Proofing the Museum,” to include a public conversation with AI artist Refik Anadol. Read More call_made

The discussion opened up hopeful spaces of opportunity for the museum, notably by suggesting that there can be a more lateral, less zero-sum approach to universalism, based upon complementarity and reciprocal exchange between cultures across the globe.
